If you're downtown around Old Port, options that should work for pub + music: The Thirsty Pig should have music at 7pm on most Fridays. Live music around 10pm at Ri Ra down by the water. Top of the East has a cool view and if they have music it is likely 6-8pm.
Check the social media of many local breweries and venues that offer drinks, many do weeknight live music.
In the summer, Portland Lobster Company has lots of live music. And usually on Thursdays in summer is Summer Sunsets Live at Thomspon Point (free!)
If looking for super cheap, Lincoln's is $5 cash for every drink and can explain how to find it and sometimes has comedy or music.
